Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) break out during the Spring Festival holiday in 2020, and spread throughout the country. And now, there is a trend of global spread.
In order to support Wuhan and make concerted efforts to deal with this public health event, more than 42,000 medical workers from across China rushed to Hubei. In order to protect themselves better in the process of treating patients, medical workers need to do a comprehensive protection, wear thick protective clothing, goggles, face shield and mask. But, wearing all kinds of protective equipment for a long time is easy to cause skin damage to them. There is a professional term for this kind of skin injury, called Medical Device-Related Pressure Injuries (MDRPI) .
Why wearing protective equipment can cause MDRPI ?
Medical devices are an integral part of care of persons in all healthcare settings. Some medical devices such as endotracheal tubes are found primarily in acute care, whereas other devices such as oxygen masks, urinary catheters, cervical collars, tracheostomy tubes/ties, compression stockings, and nasogastric tubes, to name a few, are found across care settings. Pressure injuries (PIs) that form because of medical devices are a clinical phenomenon that deserves the attention of healthcare professionals.
The National Pressure Ulcer Advisory Panel (NPUAP) has been instrumental in raising awareness of the PIs that are caused by medical devices. In 2016, the NPUAP defined a medical device–related PI (MDRPI) as arising “from the use of devices designed and applied for diagnostic or therapeutic purposes. The resultant pressure injury generally conforms to the pattern or shape of the device.” The NPUAP also distinguished MDRPIs from PIs found on the mucosal membrane; these are PIs that are “found on mucous membranes with a history of a medical device in use at the location of the ulcer.” Both definitions indicate that the etiology of the PI is associated with a medical device, but the key difference is that mucosal PIs cannot be staged because, unlike skin, mucosa does not have keratinized epithelium.
And this time in Hubei, the N95 mask used by medical workers is cup-shaped. This type of mask has narrow edge width and high hardness. Long-term use will cause excessive compression of local tissues, blood circulation disorder, skin and subcutaneous tissue necrosis, and skin damage. For example, special parts such as nose bridge, cheekbones and ears, with thin skin and lack of fat protection, are easy to cause MDRPI.
Prevention is more important than treatment! How should we prevent and treatment MDRPI?
Prevention and Treatments of Pressure Ulcers/Injuries: Clinical Practice Guideline The International Guideline 2019, which was developed as a collaboaration between EPUAP, NPIAP and PPPIA, it recommends to use a prophylactic dressing beneath a medical device to reduce the risk of medical device related pressure injuries (Strength of Evidence = B1; Strength of Recommendation↑), and also use a soft silicone multi-layered foam dressing to protect the skin for individuals at risk of pressure injureies.
LUOFUCON® Silicone Foam Dressing which made by FORYOU MEDICAL is the dressing that meets the instructions. It contains soft foam pad and gentle adhesive silicone contact layer, would protect the skin in high risk areas.
How LUOFUCON® Silione Foam Dressing works?
Cushion with multi-layers to protect the skin in high risk areas.

In March 3rd, FORYOU MEDICAL donated a number of LUOFUCON® Silione Foam Dressing and Silicone tape to the medical workers in Hubei, which was used to prevent the MDRPI. In order to make it more convenient for clinical tailoring and use, ensure the protective effect and improve the clinical convenience, FORYOU MEDICAL has taken live person explanation and demonstration videos, made tailoring diagrams and instructions, hoping to help the medical workers understand the use method of the product.
