Fully equipped hospitals, professional clinics, and major nursing centers form a complete medical and health care system in the UAE. The UAE implements a free medical care system for its citizens. According to World Bank statistics, the national recurrent medical and health expenditure of the UAE accounted for 4.23% of GDP in 2018. Based oncurrent purchasing power, the per capita recurrent medical and health expenditure in 2018 was 1817.35 US dollars, which lies front rank in the world. The government's commitment to the healthcare sector is one of the main drivers of growth in the UAE’s healthcare market, especially given that public spending accounts for more than two-thirds of overall health care spending. At the Cabinet meeting held in October 2022, the UAE approved the overall federal budget for 2023-2026, with an estimated total expenditure of 252.3 billion dirhams. The 2023 budget has been allocatedand is expected to total spending at 63.066 billion dirhams, with social development and welfare accounted for the highest proportion of this budget at 39.3%. In a statement issued ahead of Investopia 2023 in ABU Dhabi, Abdullah bin Touq Al Marri, Minister of Economy of the UAE, also mentioned that current international challenges have led to changes in global economic priorities and investment trends. The UAE is going to focus on five key areas, including healthcare, transportation and logistics, agriculture and food security, technologyand green energy. The UAE will utilize advanced technology development capabilities to meet the growing demandsfor these industries.
Previously, the 6th World Union of Wound Healing Societies (WUWHS) was held in Abu Dhabi in March 2022 (it was postponed from 2020 due to the COVID-19). This is the highest level academic conference in the global field of wound treatment and nursing care. The profile reflects that the UAE where Abu Dhabi is located and the region where Abu Dhabi radiates within the Middle East, already have a high and broader market base in wound care.
