PHMB Antibacterial Alginate Dressing

LUOFUCON^® PHMB Antibacterial Alginate Dressing is a

sterile, single-use dressing consisting of calcium alginate fiber

treated with polyhexamethylene biguanide (PHMB)，which is a

brand new advanced wound care product. It solves the

passivated problem of chemical reaction between alginate and

PHMB, which provides safe and good 7-day antimicrobial

activities for infected wounds. This dressing not only has

alginate property of providing moist wound environment, but

also offers PHMB advantage of highly effective safety.

Experimental pictures and data show that LUOFUCON^® PHMB Antibacterial Alginate Dressing has rapid effectiveness

against multi-drug resistant bacteria, such as MRSA and VRE, with a 99.99% bactericidal rate on the first day, and maintains this effect for the next 2-7 days.

Through years of technical research, FORYOU MEDICAL innovated Antibacterial Laboratory has invented the patented technology of PHMB antibacterial

alginate fiber and the corresponding preparation method of antibacterial dressing*. By grafting and loading PHMB on alginate fiber at the very beginning, the

patented technology not only solves the technical problem of rapid passivation of antibacterial activity after mixing PHMB and alginate, but also overcomes

the problem of easy free releasing of PHMB. It achieves long-term good antibacterial activity with low content, guarantees the antibacterial performance, and

improves the safety and effectiveness.

The carboxylated alginate fiber is grafted with PHMB by amide reaction to avoid the reaction between guanidine group and the anion in alginate, and retain the antibacterial activity of guanidine group in PHMB.

Grafting technology firmly anchors PHMB in alginate

fibers. Compared with other impregnated PHMB

dressings, LUOFUCON^® PHMB Antibacterial

Alginate Dressing does not release free PHMB into

the wound bed, preventing PHMB from causing

additional irritation to the fragile new tissues and

providing gentle care to the wound.

PHMB has been in use for 60 years in Europe and US. It is highly cationic, and attracts various kinds of bacteria, which are usually negatively charged. It is believed to adhere to and disrupt

target cell membranes, causing them to leak potassium ions and other cytosolic components, which results in cell death*. 

Bacteria are absorbed into LUOFUCON^® PHMB

Antibacterial Alginate Dressing along with the

wound exudate.

PHMB with cations in the dressing easily attracts

bacteria with anions.

The binding of anion and cation disrupts the

integrity of bacterial cell membrane.

Loss of cell membrane function leads to leakage of cellular components and accelerates bacterial

death.

Bacteria will be removed along with the dressing

during dressing change.

By effectively managing the bioburden, the wound

will gradually heal.

LUOFUCON^® PHMB Antibacterial Alginate Wound Dressing is indicated for first aid to help in minor abrasions, minor

cuts, minor lacerations, minor scrapes, minor scalds and

minor burns.

LUOFUCON^® PHMB Alginate Dressing is indicated for the

management ofmoderate to heavily exudating wounds, and partial to

full thickness wounds,including postoperative wounds, first and

second degree burns, trauma wounds, leg ulcers, pressure ulcers,

diabetic ulcers, graft and donor sites.

LUOFUCON^® PHMB Alginate Dressing must not be used during the first four months of pregnancy (at any time thereafter,

a strict benefit/risk assessment has to be performed).

LUOFUCON^® PHMB Alginate Dressing must not be used in patients to polyhexamethylene biguanide.

Unlike regular impregnated manufacturing method of the other PHMB wound dressings, LUOFUCON^® PHMB Antibacterial Alginate Dressing achieves that a lower content of PHMB has sustained broad-spectrum antibacterial effect by using state-of-the-art technology to bond PHMB onto alginate fibers at the very beginning. Bacteria and moisture are well managed in the dressing. It protects against the development of wound infection by decreasing the

bioburden in the dressing and bacterial penetration through the dressing.
